Navigraph Charts 8 Adds Approach Feathers, Extended Centrelines, and Measurement Tool

Three new features coming soon to Navigraph Charts: visual approach feathers for ILS procedures, extended runway centrelines for VFR flying, and a multi-leg measurement tool.

Navigraph used FSWeekend 2026 to showcase three new features coming to Navigraph Charts 8 — all included in the existing Unlimited subscription at no extra cost.

Approach Feathers

The first addition is approach feathers, a visual overlay that appears automatically on ILS and instrument-based approaches. Each feather displays:

  • Course and frequency information
  • Morse code identifier
  • Front or back course orientation at a glance
  • Support for offset localizers (useful at terrain-constrained airports like Bodø)

The visual shading immediately tells you whether you're looking at a standard front course or back course approach.

Extended Runway Centrelines

Primarily aimed at VFR pilots, extended runway centrelines project from each runway threshold in the direction of approach. Key details:

  • Line length scales to match runway length
  • Each segment represents one nautical mile
  • All runway directions display simultaneously
  • Particularly useful for visual approaches at complex airports

The team demonstrated the feature at Stockholm Arlanda, making pattern flying and visual approaches considerably more intuitive.

Measurement Tool

A long-requested feature, the new measurement tool allows pilots to place multiple nodes on any chart and measure distances and courses between them:

  • Full multi-leg support
  • Works on all platforms including touchscreen devices
  • Useful for taxi planning at large airports

The demo showed measuring taxi distance at Amsterdam Schiphol — from an apron to holding point Victor 4 for runway 36L came out at just under 2.5 nautical miles.

Bonus: Live ATIS Integration

A fourth smaller addition slipped in: live ATIS source integration. When a runway is flagged as not in use, the active ATIS report displays directly, giving context for runway selections.

Availability

All features are coming in the next release of Navigraph Charts 8, described as arriving "pretty soon." No additional cost for Unlimited subscribers.
