Island Creations Releases Tenerife Scenery for MSFS 2024

Spain's largest Canary Island gets color-corrected aerial imagery, reworked volcanic terrain around Mount Teide, enhanced port detail with hundreds of vessels, and improved night lighting.

Tenerife should look spectacular in a flight simulator — volcanic terrain dominated by Mount Teide (Spain's highest peak), dramatic coastline cliffs, and densely lit resort towns. While MSFS 2024 captures the broad strokes, Island Creations has released an add-on that addresses the visual gap between default satellite imagery and what custom scenery can achieve.

Volcanic Terrain Done Right

The most striking improvement is the ground texture work around Mount Teide and the Las Cañadas caldera. The default rendering covers the volcanic landscape in generic brownish-green tones that flatten the drama. Island Creations' color-corrected aerial imagery brings out the reds, blacks, and ochres of the lava fields more accurately — manually adjusted to remove the greenish tint common in satellite data.

Tenerife terrain comparison

The coastal cliff areas along the north show similar improvements — steep cliff faces and terraced agricultural land rendered in sharper, more natural tones with visible rocky shoreline detail.

Port and Coastal Detail

Custom water masks align the ocean boundaries with the aerial imagery, revealing coastal features like breakwaters, sandbars, piers, and small islets that the default sim smooths over.

The port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife gets particular attention: hundreds of hand-placed vessels across the island's harbours — sailboats, yachts, catamarans, ferries, and cruise ships — with container ships and dockside cranes at Santa Cruz. Seven lighthouses around the island have custom 3D models with animations.

Night Lighting and Vegetation

Night lighting has been enhanced across port structures and the cruise terminal waterfront. Vegetation has been adjusted to match the aerial imagery — palm trees and native species added to urban and coastal areas, with incorrect vegetation removed from rocky and volcanic zones.
