AirportMode Debuts with Frederick Municipal Airport for MSFS 2024
A new scenery developer enters the MSFS market with a detailed recreation of Maryland Frederick Municipal Airport, complete with custom buildings and a regional POI pack.
A new name has appeared in the MSFS scenery space. AirportMode has launched with their first product — Frederick Municipal Airport (KFDK) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
The Airport
Frederick Municipal is a general aviation airport located in Maryland, about 45 miles northwest of Washington D.C. It serves as a popular destination for GA pilots in the mid-Atlantic region, offering easy access to the Frederick area while avoiding the complexity of the nearby Class B airspace around Washington.
The airport features a single paved runway (5/23) at 5,220 feet, making it suitable for everything from light singles to small turboprops. Several flight schools and FBOs operate from the field.
What is Included
AirportMode has built KFDK from scratch for MSFS 2024:
- Custom terminal and hangar buildings — accurately modelled to match the real airport
- Detailed ground textures — weathered asphalt and concrete with realistic markings
- Regional POI pack — landmarks in the Frederick area for VFR navigation
- MSFS 2024 native — built using the latest SDK for optimal performance
Pricing and Availability
Frederick Municipal Airport is available now for $9.99 from the AirportMode store.
A New Developer to Watch
The flight sim scenery market has seen a surge of new indie developers in recent years. While it is too early to judge AirportMode based on a single release, the choice of a well-known GA airport as a debut product suggests they understand their target audience. We will be keeping an eye on what comes next.
